Men's Wearhouse Interested in Purchasing Allen Edmonds, should i be worried?

Came across this article the other day and then I started wondering what it meant for Allen Edmonds. I LOVE their shoes, quality, fit, style, etc. I have never been a fan of Men's Wearhouse. Never really shopped there checked out their store maybe once so I see it as a below average store. Any thoughts on what could happen to the AE brand if they do sell? Should I be stock piling my shoes now to ensure AE quality?

I believe A&E makes shows for Brooks and Jos A Bank. I doubt the quality will be impacted. If so just buy Alden's.

Bought a pair of 5th ave's and am LOVING them. Third pair of A&E's!

I'm sure nothing will change if MW bought AE. With acquisitions like this you are buying the brand name not the physical assets. It would be wise for MW to maintain AE's brand equity by continuing to make quality products. Doing otherwise would defeat the purpose of acquiring a quality brand.

I worry about this too, I only wear Allen Edmonds. If even a rumor circulates about tampering with the brand it will be a catastrophe. My understanding is that a PE group owns them and this hasn't affected anything so far, so I think they'll be 100% isolated from MW's production.

MW would do better to buy J&M, they're in the same league at this point, if that. AE shoes with a MW suit is like putting Indy500 tires on a riceburner. It's a mismatch, and the people who buy MW can't/won't spend money on good clothes....what makes MW think that they will spend money on good shoes?

If anything I can see JAB creating a lower quality, outsources A&E brand. Kind of like A. Testoni BASIC. Sad to see a brand trashed, but as long as true A&E's retain their value I should be happy.

I'll most likely switch to Alden though.

They did this a couple years ago. Started with stuff that didn't need to be quality (driving mocs etc.) but not sure if they are going from there. Proving diffusion branding is possible is pretty essential to running a process for a niche, high-quality brand these days.

Googled it, its called ae by Allen Edmonds.

I like Allen Edmond shoes, but is the tarnishing of their brand something I *worry* about? No, it is not. I would think most of you have bigger things to worry about.

Huh? We are talking about the quality. That which the brand relies upon.

Thanks for pointing that out Captain Obvious. But, why would you be worried about that? If you like the quality now, buy the shoes. If the quality declines in the future, don't buy them. Why would you worry about it? It's not like it's going to diminish the resale value. They're just shoes.

I don't think anyone is losing sleep over this. Worry is a lightly used word.

AE's are great shores, US made and a dependable "go to" shoe. I'd hate to see their reputation and quality decline. This is what we are discussing.
