Never heard of it...

they bought a large chunk of the Lehman asset mgt. division when lehman went bust. so they cant have been that small in the first place. i am not an expert on asset mgt though. i reckon that after they have successfully integrated the lehman division they should be a pretty decent player in asset mgt. then again, maybe some of the asset mgt hot shots around here can give some more qualified opinion of this place
i was under the impression that neuberger berman was Lehman's asset mgmt division until Lehman folded.
It's the other way around, if I'm not wrong - Lehman bough NB and it was part of Lehman's asset management division, till Lehman had to sell it off when they were going bust.
......
It's a pretty good firm. They've been raising significant amounts of money in the past few months, especially in the distressed debt realm. One has to wonder though if they're a bit late to that party at this point, at least for the time being.
Neuberger Berman/Asset Management thoughts (Originally Posted: 08/30/2011)
I have an interview coming up very soon with them and wanted to get some thoughts on Neuberger Berman and the industry in general. What types of questions are you faced with in Asset Management interviews? What is the expected skill set? What do you do on a day-to-day basis? I'm coming from IBD at a junior level.
That's a really broad question that can't be answered in just one forum post. I have a fairly lengthy article here that might help you get started:

Asset Management/Investment Management is a very different career path.
1) Analyst 2) Get CFA 3) Manage to move into investment position at current place/or apply else where 4) Get MBA 5) Become PM
at-least that seems standard. Also, you'll have to cut yourself away from the IB/MBB/S&T noise, which can be hard when that's what all of your friends are doing.
It's a slower, steadier job, but you'll make decent to good money until you're like 60-65.
Also, NB is a good name to have on the resume.
thanks EnteringRealLife for the post! not many people are knowledgeable on the asset mgmt career path but your post cleared up a lot. i'll be doing asset mgmt for my internship this summer as well.
oh thanks! this definitely helps clear up the air a bit...looking forward to meeting them now.
