New position got posted for the group I was rejected from 4 months ago.

Here's the story:

I had an interview for a job at a BB back in May, but I was dinged and cited for lack of direct experience in the function of the division.

Today I noticed there is another opening with the group (I noticed via Linkedin one of the Analysts I interviewed with left the firm) and I want to reapply seeing as I now have much more relevant experience, however, because my application is still listed on the job site it won't let me apply for the position, because it says I already have. (Despite different job #'s and being posted 4 months apart.)

Should I email one of the VP's of the division that I interviewed with the first time and ask if I can be reconsidered for the new opening and give her an updated resume and a quick synopsis of why I'm more qualified for the position now than I was earlier in the year? I'm not sure if that would be appropriate or not. The only other option would be to email the HR person I was working with during the first set of interviews I had -- but I think that would just be futile.

For what it's worth after I was dinged the VP and myself exchanged a nice set of emails where she thanked me for coming in and was sorry it didn't work out.

What do you guys think would be the best course of action?

I second what nyc123 said above. I had a slightly different situation, but the advice still applies. I had a good interview at my last firm but didn't hear back for a while. I finally emailed the director 2 months later by tagging off my initial "thank you for interviewing me" email. I kept it simple and said I was still interested and welcomed his feedback as I thought the interview went well. Turns out I got lost in the shuffle with HR. We exchanged several emails and calls that day and he looped me in to interview with a senior exec later that week. I got the job offer that same day.

I waited to reach out because I questioned if it was appropriate like you are now. But just like nyc123 said, what's the worst that can happen? Reach out to the VP. Keep it simple and professional and you have nothing to worry about. Good luck and keep hustling!
