Oaktree Real Estate

Hi Guys,

Does anyone have any insight on Oaktree Real Estate fund.

From my understanding they are renowned for distressed debt investing, but I could not find much more information (did a search on WSO too)

Any additional insight into their Real Estate practice (culture / rep / compensation / learning xp) would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

Oaktree is one of two major recruitment/interview ooofs of my career. Had an informational phone interview with a guy from Oaktree when I was a young CRE on a day that I had like 5 or 6 lined up in a row. I told this guy how interested in his company I was and I listed all of the reasons. He very much did not appreciate the fact that I said the completely wrong company. Hah, the call ended soon after.

What's the other ooof?

I was asked what my hobbies are and of them I said was "reading." I do legitimately read, but for some reason I hit a mental wall and couldn't think of a damn book name when they asked what the most recent book I read was. So instead, I just looked like tool who said they read to appear smart or something but actually was full of shit.

Nobody's answering so I'll give my 2 cents, though this is a pretty far removed take as we've pitched them on some JV deals and I have an acquaintance, ex-BXer, who work there and some other friends who work at their AM arm.

1. They have a great rep, hire top talent and pay well.

2. Culture is pretty work hard play hard and you should get some great experience if you go there. Hours are ~8 to 9 or 10, sometimes longer.
