Omission of recent job from Employment History

Hi WSO,

I need some help on a question that is now kinda freaking me out. But basically, I had a 5-6 month job at a bank where I was fired. I am applying for jobs where I sent job apps without the including that as a recent role. My question is that will this job pop up in a background check if I dont include it on a resume. I have not filed taxes pertaining to this job. Also, I have not filed any credit application pertaining to this job. A friend of mine had a 3 month full-time back office job at a bank and did not include that job in his resume or list it in employment history, and nothing was brought up when he applied and got a job in another role.

My question is will this job show up in a background check?

No it will not pop up in a background check. The way those things work is you provide the firm/background check company the information on your employment history and someone from the background check firm Googles the company for the phone number (they don't rely on you to provide that as you could give any number). The background check firm then asks whoever picks up the phone who they need to talk to in order to confirm employment history and they get transferred to HR who confirms the employment dates. If you don't include the company in your employment history, the background check firm will never call them. Obviously, you need to explain what you were doing for those 5-6 months but other than that, you should be golden.

Lots of these questions come up on here but none of us are in HR or compliance. If its the type of bg check where you have to put 5yrs of jobs history, you should do that. Even if the bank finds out you got axed from your job moving furniture cus you were stealing panties, they aren't going to care. It was wrong what you did but, in this context, irrelevant.

I have a friend who lives in the country, and it's supposed to be an hour from 42nd Street. A lie! The only thing that's an hour from 42nd Street is 43rd Street!
