Reneging in 2021

Anyone actually go through the process of reneging?

I got an offer at a EB but in a regional office while my goal is to be in a top BB in NYC. I am tempted to take it and renege later if given an offer somewhere else. Is this worth doing/how likely is it that I get both offers pulled being that the offices are on different coasts?

>Anyone actually go through the process of reneging?

Yes

>Would love some insight from people who were successful at reneging.

So what are your actual questions? There are a bunch of threads regarding reneging, and they're all still relevant

Well my question is that the consensus is that the risk of reneging and getting both your offers pulled is actually quite low, yes it can happen but if you don't tell the original firm where your going and don't post on LinkedIn then most likely you'll be fine.

Is this true?

If you renege, you likely screw someone else out of the job offer. The firm you first accepted the offer will have to decline other candidates and most likely end the recruitment process. Finance, especially IB, is a small world. A bird in your hand is worth more than two in the bush.
