Required certifications for a credit risk analyst
Hello everybody,
I just started a new job as a credit risk analyst in a commercial bank, and I have some doubts about which certifications I should take to boost my career.
I have already signed up for December 2018 CFA Part I, and I was planning to take FRM part I and II in May 2019 and October 2019. Hopefully, in a long-term view, I would like to take CFA part II and III in July 2020 and July 2021.
Is it worth it? Will I receive the results of FRM part I before FRM part II sign up phase is over? Has anyone taken both FRM exams in a single year?
FRM should be quite enough. TBH, certificates don't help much with your career advancement. The greatest utility of certificates is to show you are a hardworking guy who manage to study even when you are already swamped with work.
If you're interested in staying in commercial credit and you're a hard worker with your head screwed on straight... the certifications will be entirely for you. They generally won't accelerate or slow down your advancement potential. That will be driven far more by your exposure to various types of credits, your specialization, and the needs/opportunities in your bank.
