Resources to learn about healthcare?

Hi everyone, interning in a HC group this summer and I want to learn more about the industry. Do you have any resources that you found particularly helpful to gain a better understanding of all of the different verticals, and any resources you use to keep up to date with industry news?

I understand that I’ll learn what I need to during training, but I’d love to get a head start and learn as much as I can about everything now. Thanks in advance for your help.

I'd look at which subsector of healthcare your group focuses on given how broad the sector is. If it's biopharma/biotech then look at FierceBiotech and FirecePharma. If its diagnostics or med devices look for news sources which cover these topics. There's no amazing way to be prepared but being up to date on the markets you'll likely cover is likely to go a long way.

I would say first reading new sources like Fierce, Endpoints, Biospace, Biopharma Dive, etc would help you get familiarized with how people talk about this stuff and how it is reported, as well as what companies are up to. For books about the space, Biotech Primer helped me learn high level about the different types of drugs and approval processes, and the Pharmagellan guide to biotech valuation is for the absolute hardo who wants to learn about this before they start, which is totally unnecessary. Would also echo people saying to read an equity research report or two. Good for seeing how people in the industry value and talk about these types of companies. I would suggest you look at one for a one or two product company or something in phase 3, rather than a big daddy company like Pfizer or Lilly, so you can narrow down on an asset or two and see how its understood. Don't worry about not knowing all of the science in the world like the back of your hand--that stuff just comes with time.
