should I take this job

Hi WSO,

I just got a interview for a call centre position at the brokerage division of a Canadian BB. My plan is to get the job and use this role to progress into S&T of the same bank through internal recruiting.
Would it be possible to progress from a calling centre role to S&T provided I obtain the recognized designations? or would taking the job in Calling centre lead to a dead end and/or away from institutional banking and more into retail?

I know a trader who began in customer service, then worked in a BB S&T role on the sales side, then small HF and now works at a prominent global macro hedge fund. This process took him 5 years.

Are you describing yourself here?

I wish.

i am in the process of getting the job, my end goal is S&T, and since the current job has a very lengthy application process, I am wondering if I would put up with it if it doesn't lead to desired career progression, but I would love to work that the BB i am currently apply for and if doing this would lead me to the S&T, i would do it any day
