Skill-set Assessment!

Hey y’all,

I have been lurking around WSO for a while and it has helped me a lot. So thank you WSO! I would like to outline my situation and would appreciate any kind of advice as to what in the world I should do.

Background first: I’m 23, have a masters degree in finance from a non LSE/Oxbridge university in the UK (BUT Top 10 in the UK). Right now I’m in the Middle East (this is home) and working for a bank here for more than a year (reputable enough for me to jump ship not reputable enough to jump ship QUICK, not too worried about this though)

My question revolves around the skills I have developed so far. I have been doing due diligence on funds across various asset classes example: private equity, real estate, hedge funds, commodity funds, listed equity funds, both fund of funds and singular funds. I love it. There’s very basic excel stuff involved but it’s mostly going through the LPAs and doing research on the various Fund Managers and finding out their capabilities in managing/running the Fund, the investments, costs involved, realized unrealized multiple analysis etc so that our client gets money/doesn't lose every single cent invested. I basically generate reports day in and day out on the various Funds and the Fund mandates that our client receives.

I understand that this is not traditional investment banking i.e. M&A, IPO’s etc and that this is investment advisory. I’m still worried as I haven’t done a single valuation model so far and quite frankly shit at excel. (Looking to improve excel skills but let’s just I don’t think I’ll be doing valuations anytime soon). So could you guys advise me on:

A.My prospects at a BBB. Also would I have to start from the bottom up again considering my non valuation related experience?
B.Where would my skills be most applicable? I love what I do and I definitely know a shit load about funds. PE seems apt but then again I haven’t done lbo models hence the confusion.
C.What are the absolute must have excel skills that I should have in order to move up the ladder in what I do? I intend to get TTS once I have some kind of feedback on what exactly might be required for me to hone my skills in fund advisory.

ANY ADVICE IS MOST APPRECIATED. Thanks a ton everyone!
