Staying Flexible? IB vs. MMS
Hello everyone,
Hopefully this is posted in the right forum. I've been in Audit for ~1 year now and I'm still trying to make the transition to IB. I've been hitting the technicals pretty hard and picking up speed with networking, but I can't help but think I need to have a backup option. I really would prefer not to stay in Audit for another year so the way I see it I have a few options.
1) Apply for the Duke MMS :
Pros: More time to save up money if I get in, More WE when I enter the program, getting another shot at IB (or even PE/VC) through campus recruiting.
Cons: Having to stick around in Audit for the next 6-8 months.
2) Keep trying to break into IB:
Pros: Potentially getting a position I want
Cons: Could not happen
3) Keep trying to break into IB/apply to Duke MMS:
Pros: One of these would more likely than not happen sooner later.
Cons: This would take up alot of time, neither could happen, and I might not be able to focus on work.
4) Leave Audit and apply to Duke MMS:
Pros: I would have time to put the best application together
Cons: Not sure how the gap in WE would be viewed by admissions/future employers, I would fill it by volunteering and working to start a non-profit.
The reason for Duke MMS is that I've seen it's the only program that takes applicants with WE as long as it's under 2 years and business majors (no other reputable program/school I've seen has these qualifications) What's the best choice? I'm thinking option 3 but I'd like to hear your thoughts as well. Additionally, if there are any other Master's programs you think are worth taking a look at let me know.
Thanks,
Otto
Stay in audit, apply for IB jobs, and apply to Duke MMS. I don't see why you can't do all this at once. Once you get an offer for an IB or gain acceptance - then make a decision on whether to quit audit or not.
