Summer Hiring-Are responses this slow, or was I rejected?

So I last Monday conducted an interview with a financial news company, and the interviewer, who talked about second round interviews, how the company is expanding, asked me a decent amount of questions, says that they'll be interviewing for the rest of the week (last week,) now its the next week. I called yesterday, the guy I needed to speak to wasn't in, and same today. He did close the interview out with "we'll be in touch" which worried me, tho from what I understand, it could be done to throw me off, not come off obvious, etc. He did seem impressed with my SAT scores, GPA, etc.

How should I handle this? When should I call again, it is a small company? Will they actually call me? Have I been rejected, or is summer just very slow? I've been working with a recruiter who said it was slow, and most postings are accounting, etc. but still.

It's fairly standard to take a week after the last interview to make a decision, ie. if they interviewed through this past Friday, they should give an offer to the top candidate by this Friday. I'd give them a couple more days, typically the standard for calling back an interviewer is the Friday of the week after you interview (unless you're certain interviewing didn't go through the entire week).

If they delay beyond the typical week, it could be to give their top candidate time to accept or reject the offer, and typically they won't outright say you're rejected until someone accepts an offer (which could be 14 days following the Friday the week you interviewed). I had an insurance company take "2-3 weeks" after interviewing for an actuarial job this summer, I'm guessing part of it is due to the summer being vacation season.

Every time I got to the 2nd round, I've been called with a rejection. Even after a first in-person interview I'd think its standard to at least email a rejection.

Relax dude. The fact that you're spamming them with contact probably isn't helping your case.

As hard as it might be, just be patient.

ps they also reposted the position a second time yesterday, after they did 1 week after my interview. Could that mean they're simply keeping their options open longer?

if it's reposted by them (not a reindex from a job aggregator) then you're probably not the top choice but not a complete reject yet

have you heard back?
