Trading - Student interested in trading

I am a student in College am I am really interested in trading. Since I live in Texas my Network in the Finance industry is limited. I was wondering where to start? How do I practice trading or learning how to trade properly, where I will have an idea of what most of the stuff is before i walk in for an internship/job? Also would buying a nice setup like computer with trading program/software possibly help?
