trading/investing roles for (semi) quants

Hi all,

I'm currently a student at a target school in Canada studying pure math/stats and am really interested in quant finance and trading. Not looking to pursue higher education and am not really interested in the accounting side of fundamental analysis. Wondering if you guys have any insight into investing/trading roles that are for 'semi-quants' (not PHD level quant stuff), any specific trading products? Any good resources to start looking at? (other than the obvious WSJ and FT)

FWIW, solid python/sql/vba skills and understanding of ML and probability.

If anyone is in the space (preferably in Canada) and is willing to chat or answer some PMs that would be great too.

Thanks,

As far as I know, having a PhD or at least a masters is a must at these buy side firms. First because there are limited seats for quant roles, also because an undergrad degree doesn’t really give you the research skills that these roles require

Macro Strategies at CPPIB might be interesting to you. They are not pure quant (QSRP is the pure quant team there I believe) but tend to hire "quanty" undergrads and trade a discretionary macro strategy. To get a FT role there you must do their intern analyst program and get a return from there. Note that this team is not large.
