Valuation at HL / Lincoln type firm
Just want to get people's advice on whether this is a good move. I spoke with a VP at a firm like HL/Lincoln that offers valuation service. The VP was in the coverage / M&A group, and towards the end of the call, he told me that I will be a good fit for their valuation group and that was my best way of lateraling into IB without going to B-school. His advice is to lateral from my current role as a asset-based lending analyst at a BB - valuation at the MM firm - M&A or coverage after 1 - 2 years. He offered to connect me with a vp at valuation to set up interview.
what? that's ridiculous, why would you go from a BB to a barely recognized function in a barely recognized bank all in order to get to an M&A role? If you're already in a BB just go to a coverage group or M&A product group... It's really not that difficult, it happens all the time (at least at banks like JPM, MS, and BAML) you just have to network and make a case for yourself.
Make move from current role to current or different BB Coverage/M&A group or MM bank rather than a valuations role..
