What is life like as a CFO? Would like to know more about it

I know a typical way is through one of the big 4 getting your cpa, then becoming a CIO to a CFO. How many years do this process usaully take, and what do their salaries look like? What are the hours like? Is the job difficult to reach? Thank You.

this is a very broad question

If you're referring to a CFO for a public company, I recommend researching the CFOs of companies you are interest in, seeing their path, and salaries (which usually are disclosed) - yahoo finance works for this.

What are hours like? It depends, but in general, you are pretty tied to your work wherever you go, at least the CFOs I have met.

CFO jobs are difficult to reach - just think about supply and demand and I think you'll answer this question on your own.

a relative of mine followed the path you mentioned above. becoming a CFO does not happen overnight, and I believe it took him at least 15 years. can't give you any salary info, but can tell you that the hours he worked were somewhere between 60-80 per week, travel was also involved. As for the difficulty, I think you understand that being a CFO should not be an easy gig to get, and therefore is reserved for only the most qualified.

Almost every senior executive at a major corporation has done at least a 2 year stint overseas managing an international division. I hope you're ready to relocate on the spot and travel. A lot.

I think you have a much better chance of making MD at a BB than CFO at a F500 firm.

F500 means there's only 500 CFO's and 500 CEO's no matter how you look at it.

And I don't think they make that much money relative to senior bankers. In terms of salary, they get about anywhere between .5 million- 3 million while the majority of their compensation is tied to multi-year stock options depending on performance. If they don't hit their multi-year performance targets, the 10+ million in stock options disappear as well.
