Where to include awards on resume?
Quick question guys. Got a couple of awards recently from school. One is the "Outstanding student award" from my Russian class. The award was given to me at the department awards ceremony. I also got 50 dollars. Another thing I just got is a "Junior Fellow" thing, which recquired a letter of rec and resume. Basically, it will just give me inside access to guest speakers and other events, etc. Anyway, where do i put these on resume? Right now I have an education section, work experience section, and interests section. Let me know.
They go with either education or interests. For these I'd lean towards putting them with interests at the bottom of the resume
under the school/degree in education.
If it's an academic award or an honor tied to your school, I'd put it in the education section at the top. If it's an extra-curricular award, then I'd put it at the bottom section.
Awards on a resume? (Originally Posted: 11/09/2010)
Which awards are appropriate to put on a resume? If I won a scholastic athlete award in high school, should that be put on? If I only have one award, but I think it's fairly prestigious, does that warrant its own "award" section on the resume?
Its from High School so, unless you're shooting for a Freshman, Sophomore type internship I would leave it off.
What if I'm a junior in college and recently won an award that is prestigious in my alumni network and awarded for excellence in finance/academic. Also, when I become a senior, is it no longer relevant? I only ask because I think this is the only award that is relevant my career path.
agree with happypants. anything from high school should be left off after sophomore year unless it's the intel science talent search, international math/physics olympiad or something of that caliber. if you went to a fancy prep school you MIGHT leave that on, but just name only and years attended. i'm talking exeter, le rosey, etc.
