Would like to get out of wealth management

Chimps and Chimpettes,

I’ve worked for a couple of wealth management firms now as a career changer and while I love finance I don’t like this position. I don’t feel well suited for what is effectively a sales position and I’m not good at it. I’d love to get in to a role where I could use my brain more and value companies etc. My former life was in sports and I don’t have a degree which I realize is a tough hurdle to get past but I’d love to hear what you guys think about my prospects of getting a job in equity research or as an analyst somewhere? I guess I’d like to know if you think I need to get a degree, or CFA and what my best course of action is? I’m fairly close to Chicago but closer to Milwaukee. Thanks for any insight.
