Transitioning from Fund Admin and Accounting to FP&A

I've worked for State Street for 3 years as a fund account and later in fund administration. I'm hoping to migrate into a financial analyst position at a public company in order to get on something closer to a CFO track.

Has anyone made the transition? What are the major differences between the skill sets? Do FP&A hiring managers look down upon applicants from the custodial side of the asset management world?
