Awesome post, SB'd. Didn't know about the Booth/Tuck AMAs (will check out) and I wasn't really planning to apply to Kellogg (when I apply in ~3 years) but I'll definitely consider it closely now. Love the no occupation/college reveal for a week thing.
Well, someone's certainly rather chipper!
You're right about it being silly to consider any one of Booth/Kellogg/Sloan/CBS above or below any of the others in terms of recruitment. I'm also not convinced that there's much of a difference in how much you can learn at any of these schools, either, as much as some of them might try to convince you otherwise.
That being said... Kellogg just ain't for me. I visited the school once, and for whatever reason just found that we didn't click. Ah, well. Can't win 'em all.
Great post! Although Kellogg was too fratty and touchy-feely for me, it is an awesome business school with an amazingly cohesive community and an awesome social scene (2nd only to HBS in my opinion). My best friend went there and loved it (met his wife to boot!).
Having said that, a few caveats. First, I'm sure you had a great time in KWEST and have made friends, but to say that you made 20+ "lifelong" friends is a bit extreme. Studies have shown that 5 years after b-school, most people only stay in touch with a handful of people. B-school is a bubble, and since you are constantly around the same people virtually 24/7 you will feel like you guys are super tight and will be bros for life. Unfortunately, that is simply not reality once you guys graduate and re-enter the real world. Of course, I encourage you to have fun, and it's a great experience no doubt. I just wanted to put some perspective on this as a current M7 student. Second, Kellogg's culture is not "unique" in this regard. It's definitely more fratty than say Booth or Sloan, but b-school in general is fun, and people are down to party and travel. The characterizations of quant schools such as Wharton/Columbia/Booth/Sloan as being cutthroat and unfriendly is mostly myth.
Wait a minute, do my eyes deceive me? I must be hallucinating again.
Seems like you have a good personality mix with certain people that others might not have. Seems like a great fit for you--the experience of others is not necessarily going to follow yours.
One more note. The OP's post is further proof that business school is more fun than college. I personally think that the college experience is a bit overrated.
In my mind college fucking blows, but having more money and then the free time that college tends to provide is pretty cool.
In college your grades actually matter. And I can't speak for others, but I did not have money in college since my parents were working-class. In business school, I do just enough work to get by and don't have to worry AT ALL about my grades. Almost no one is competitive when it comes to academics, so we all just chill and have a good time. And since I have more money now, I can splurge once in a while on cool trips. For example, I just came back from a trip to Rio de Janeiro with 60 of my classmates: sightseeing, getting bottles at upscale nightclubs, lavish sushi and steak dinners, etc. It was pretty cool, and on the plane ride back home, I thought to myself, "Wow. This is so much more fun than college on every level."
Simply put, business school is the FUCKING SHIT. Imagine having sex with a really hot girl while on cocaine. Then multiply that feeling by 100, and you will get an idea of how awesome b-school is.
I was referring to B-school being better because you have more money to do stuff and undergrad sucking.

hahaha, can we get a secondary source to confirm this statement, @"Brady4MVP"?
This is why I try to avoid these threads. Oh well now I got sucked into this one.
(I love how mbavsmfin denies that he's Brady4MVP when the writing style is so obviously similar, including the use of all caps for emphasis in both posts)
Agreed see signature
This makes me think you've done neither, much less both. So keep imagining.
Because no one is fucking broke anymore
You longer are the days of pregaming 30 racks of Natty Ice
To respond to two points quickly since im super drunk and have to be up at 8am:
1) Business School IS fun. ROI, opportunity cost, etc are important, but its worth noting that business school is going to probably be 2 of your most fun years of your life. Too many people get caught too much in the math, and lose focus that enjoyment has value. Worst case scenario (if you completely fuck up in recruiting) is you take a job that pays $120k a year, $90k after debt payments, in exchange for 2 of the best years of your life.
2) Even if I lose touch with many of these people after school, having met them has definitely evolved me as a person. I don't know how to value this from a ROI perspective, but its invaluable to me from a personal growth standpoint.
Yup. B-school is definitely the most fun 2 years of your life. Every single person who actually went to b-school agrees with this. Cherish it while it lasts. I can't believe b-school is already halfway over for me!!! Aargh.
When you start getting a ton of time off at your day job you'll like it more IMNSHO.
Out of curiosity OP (not sure if you've mentioned it elsewhere on WSO) what are your post-MBA career goals?
Management consulting and I'm also considering strategic planning/business development.
delete
You are a little excited, but I think that's a great thing.
Is there anything that you think sets Kellogg apart besides the social atmosphere you described? Doesn't have to be academic or anything, just want another reason to apply :).
I will be blunt as well: I didn't get a lot from this post.
It would be beneficial to talk about what you have been doing on a daily/weekly basis; write about how you got in contact with the 2/3 MBB partners; and you should leave the anecdotal comparison of Wharton out. No value there.
No shit work sucks. You know what's even better than B school? Being rich and unemployed. Oh and having a pet Unicorn. But since we are in the land of reality we sometimes have to work in order to have money and live.
As for the post, no doubt Kellogg is a great school. I just don't think posts like this are any more than back patting.
It got very Brady up in here
I'm glad you're having fun and all, but please realise that it's pretty sad if business school are the best 2 years of your life. Didn't any of you guys travel in college or while working? And when you travel 'getting bottles at upscale nightclubs, lavish sushi and steak dinners' is not what you should be doing. Stuff like that gets old real fast if you're doing it every weekend or order it on seamless ever night while you're out in the real world.
So it's "sad" to say that business school is the best 2 years of your life but not sad to say that college was the best 4 years of your life? WSO posters who have never been to b-school routinely denigrate guys like me and the OP who have a different view on the college vs mba experience from most others. What's interesting is that very few of these posters actually went to b-school.
Agreed. Honestly, if your life does not get progressively better each year you are out of college/b-school, then I would recommend reassessing how you choose to live your life.
Also, anyone who compares b-school to sex...is not banging the right girls (coked up or otherwise).
Completely disagree. As you get older, you just have more responsibilities, stress, and deterioration of physical health. Although I agree that in general you should always be moving forward in life, school is a pretty unique time period in one's life. I think b-school is even more unique than college due to the reasons I've mentioned before.
Agree - fucking pathetic.
That's what I did my first 2 years as an analyst bottles at clubs. Sushis and steak dinners? Join the buy side or market sell side, you'll eat in 1 year enough of it to last you a lifetime. Really scares me to think that people in an MBA get excited for this sh.t.
Sex on cocaine, what the fuck? "Although cocaine has a reputation as an aphrodisiac, end up having the reverse effect. It increases sexual desire while impairing or delaying orgasm. However, a symptom of heavy cocaine abuse is a massive decline in sex drive and activity. Chronic cocaine use can impair sexual function in men and women. In men, cocaine can cause delayed or impaired ejaculation."
I hope you are still young, and that's why you are still excited by it all. I pity the poor guys who are past 26 doing MBAs.
What's wrong with doing an MBA past 26?
Business school is infinitely better than undergrad. In college you're still finding yourself, worried about employment, don't travel much, have minimum money to spend, have petty social shit going on since you're all emotionally immature, etc. By business school, everyone has strong social skills, travels a lot, knows who they are and what they value, has direction, etc.
My life before business school was great...I'm going to marry my best friend, I've traveled to 2 dozen countries (including kissing a crocidile in Thailand, riding an ostrich in Kenya, and going to the pyramids of Egypt during the Morsi revolution), played on football teams, ran marathons and tough mudder, sky dived, gone out every weekend for a decade in NYC doing a lot better stuff than upscale nightclubs (although of course I've done that too), have a large group of close friends, etc.
Despite all the above, business school is still absolutely amazing so far.
Amen brotha! Preach to these non-believers who never went to b-school and tell themselves that it's not as fun as college in order to make themselves feel better.
OpsDude,
Not to take away from KWEST, but Booth's Random Walk is the exact same thing. Both schools outsource the weeklong preMBA trips to the same third party which handles the logistics and itinerary. While you aren't staying in the same hotels as the Booth folks, the trips are essentially identical.
So I agree that KWEST is amazing and every student should consider going, just keep in mind it isn't 100% unique to Kellogg.

@"OpsDude" Heard Kellogg MBA is a 1 year program. Was this a factor for you? Do you prefer the shorter program vs the traditional 2 year MBAs?
Kellogg has both a 1 year and a 2 year MBA program. The 1 year starts in the summer while the 2 year starts in fall. The former is usually for those who studied business in college and are being sponsored, hence don't have the need to do an internship.

Glad its going well. You do have a bit of a defensive tone...
I honestly think 25% of people who do blow can Fuck on blow. Usually you just want to do more blow.
That being said, I'm always curious about this B school hype. I did a year off and had fun, but I've had more fun since getting back to work. Just have a group of friends who you can do shit with. It might be a little harder, but the upside is you have cash. Not saying B school blows, but it just seems like everyone on here is doing it for the wrong reason.
Am I the only one who gets bottle service because it's actually cheaper when you Calc it out? I'm paying $300 a bottle with 20% gratuity. So that's 360. I'll go with two other friends and split it. We save the tip on no cover and it's a hundo per person. I'd spend probably 150 on drinks if I just went to the bar. How is it balling out?
I don't know what's going on around here anymore.
Seems like a waste. Do you actually even convert on the girls you pull from the club or do you just end up shelling out?
Me? I'm mobile and can't see if someone is replying to a post.
I'll go out and just have fun. The big benefit of bottle service is the private searing area and no waiting. Basically club 1st class.
As for ass, sometimes yes, sometimes now. I usually just want to get fucked up with my friends. You can pull ass free on tinder and knowing how to cook.
I apologize in advance for an offensive post, but I couldn't resist...
Since this is a pointless thread now, I might as well add my opinion for a better sex analogy than banging on cocaine:
Popping a Cialis and banging a really hot girl for 30 minutes, then busting a nut inside her, then banging her for another 30 minutes without any down time, ending with her squiring everywhere. Multiply that by 100, and that would be a pretty sick b school experience!!!
Maybe that just appeals to the over 26 crowd ;-)
Came into this thread seeking answers and now I'm leaving only further confused. So is an MBA like fucking on cocaine, or creampieing on a Cialis? Please advise.
B school better suck your cock and balls for the price you pay for it. That's all know for sure.
OP basically vomited his insecurities in this thread instead of taking the opportunity to add even a little bit of value to potential MBA applicants.
Just realized this guy is the old sternmasta/fordhammasta who used to complain about working at Citi Ops. Having Brady/JJC join in to spam this to two pages is just the poop frosting on the cake.
Hahaha. This is why I can't stand most MBA people. IRL I don't see people who get other professional degrees (Law, Medicine, MSF, etc) saying all this obnoxious stuff.
What's JJC?
Why do all b-school threads end up with Brady's brown nosing vs. the world? I'M APPLYING TO B-SCHOOL, I NEED HELP!
And if the type of students at top b-schools are like Brady, maybe I need to rethink my decision of applying.
Nice try, Kellogg Admissions Representative
This is off topic, but where does Brady go to school?
Never change WSO, never change!
This is pure entertainment.
OpsDude and mbavsmfin went to Stern and Wharton (or Chicago?) undergrads respectively, two of the most fun colleges ever. So obviously their experience will vary compared to someone who went to LSU or whatever.
This thread.... lol
Look B school is fun, I loved my time doing my MMS at Fuqua. However, it's the first week, as time goes on you'll have a more nuanced view of things. Presumably you haven't been there long enough to see administration screw ups, bad professors and the like.
Haha pure gold. I'm sure everyone at Wharton is sitting around wishing they were at Kellogg.
This is eons ways from CompBankers Booth Q&A and quite frankly I dont get the value of front-paging this asides for entertainment value as people talk about cocaine/etc. Nothing against OP, he has some good posts on here but to me this reads like "OMG I am in bizz schools its so cool, omg" or "OMG I just joined my college fraternity this is so cool these guys and I all hang out together, have parties, eat in the cafeteria together, cut class together and we will be bros for life!" Not really much value in terms of practical information abiut the school and honestly I've seen this type of post about every b-school
I personally love northwestern, but my only issue is everyone living in the suburbs. I'd probably pick booth, all else being equal, because of this.
And am I the only one that thinks getting wasted and laid is part of normal life, not just MBA life? Like I have no doubt an MBA is fun, but I'd want more than just that if I was paying full freight.
You completely missed the part about evolving a third arm and growing taller. That's priceless if you ask me.
Its pretty normal when you put a bunch of young single people who have money in a tank for 2 years in some remote location outside of their home state. These people are all going to end up going out and making friends and as grades are a non-issue there is going to be more partying. I never attended an MBA programs and am hoping I wont need to but the same type of behavior happens in new Analyst classes when they go to training somewhere, people all do the same type of stuff. Overall Id say its the type of atmosphere thats conducive to such behavior. As for me, I'm married and have other priorities, if I attend a MBA it will be for the networking/pedigree/anything I can get from academics.
OP, your Wharton friend's characterization of the school is so off base and ridiculous that I laughed my ass off.
Good on you @"OpsDude". I'm glad you're enjoying life at Kellogg. As you've discovered first-hand, for all the debating on WSO about which M7/T10/T15 is best, once you're there (wherever "there" is), it's hard not to have a good time.
I know a good chunk of the 2Ys you'll be meeting as recruiting (consulting right?) ramps up, and can assure you you're in for a treat there as well.
I'm drunk as I'm typing this. Got only 3 hours of sleep last night. Was out at 2 different rooftop parties last night and got home at 4 AM. Tonight me and like 50 of my classmates went to an all you can eat sushi restaurant and did multiple rounds of sake bombs. We were screaming "sake sake sake bomb!" and then pounded the table hard enough so that the sake shot glasses fell into our cups of japanese beer. We also played drinking games at the restaurant and were shouting and clapping. The other customers looked at us in amusement, but we simply didn't care. To us, it was normal MBA bonding. After that we went to a classmate's penthouse apartment with a nice balcony overlooking the city. He hired a professional DJ and bartenders, open bar! It was packed and a fucking awesome party.
Tomorrow is back to reality since I need to actually do some school work and get ready for recruiting. But stuff like this are extremely common, and we are already discussing our travel plans for the winter. South Africa, Hong Kong/Singapore, St. Bart's, etc., are all on the table.
Business school fucking ROCKS!!! I laugh at people who insist that college (4 years of having to stress about grades, not having money, being surrounded by immature insecure shitheads, drinking shitty domestic beer) is more fun than business school. I guess ignorance is bliss for these people.
Anyways OP, keep up the good work and continue having a blast at Kellogg. No other life experience before or after will equal it.
But Brady, think about how much you are missing out by not being at HBS.
Sorry bro. Too busy having fun and going through recruiting to think about HBS.
So your night was so good the last thing you did before tucking yourself in at night was post about it on WSO? A few things, if there was ever any doubt your life was boring prior to your MBA that has been erased. Sounds like you've hit a good stride with where your life is headed, you should keep that momentum going once you get out of school. Stop calling it "MBA bonding", just call it "going out." Lastly, tone down the rhetoric, if it really was such an awesome night you would've been pounding pussy instead of posting about sake bombs (which taste like shit IMO).
Act like you've been there and start ripping some pie. Let us know how recruiting goes, good luck.
Bullet points:
Calm down, internet tough guy. I'm sure you're an alpha 6'4'' stud who makes seven figures and slays hot chicks every night he goes out. Right?
Bullet points:
I have no idea why, but this made me laugh. Anyway, I'm glad you're enjoying yourself.
Lol I'm sure it was a good time, but the way you wrote that makes it sound somewhat douchey. If I end up doing an MBA, I view it as more of a vacation from reality than anything else.
Yes; it is definitely a vacation from reality.
It must have been the repeated comments like this that got Brady banned the first time around. Amusing a little bit at first but then increasingly irritating over time.
Haha exactly.
I mean that sounds like a fun night, but one people have all the time when they have a good group of friends.
I think B school is great and there are lots of benefits to it, but the social aspect is way overhyped.
Fair enough. Although we disagree a bit on this, at least your response is rational and mature, as opposed to internet tough guy idiots like senior88 who spouts ad hominem rants.
I'd try and find a solid group of dudes in your program that will be in the area you work after this. The last thing you want is to lose this solid crew once work starts. IMO, once you have some good friends this shit should be able to continue until you get married and phase down (if ever).
I think this is one of the best things I got from my masters. Bunch of friends I made in the program stayed in Philly and we party together all the time. Really great when you relo to a new area also.
Lol brady/jjc you are SCREWED. you wasted your first year at a fofs.
http://www.wallstreetoasis.com/forums/exit-opps-for-fund-of-funds
then spent weeks on here complaining about how fulltime 2nd year OCR sucks. u are definitely going to end up with a 80k shit job post-grad.
enjoy ur sake bombs while you can lol.
Haha nice try bro. I had issues with the FoF internship, but it paid well and the hours were great. Not worried at all about finding a solid gig coming out. I am a bit disappointed with full-time OCR, but nothing's perfect, and there are still tons of opportunities out there.
also, ur obviously in the executive mba program so ur screwed either way. stop acting like u are in the FT program.

I'm a second year full-timer; that question was for a buddy of mine. It's starting to get creepy as hell though with how you are stalking me and digging up old posts in an attempt to discredit me. Your obsession with me was a bit amusing at first, but please get some help bro.
Not stalking you since you are famous on other sites seen here and it's all public knowledge:

What's JJC?
I'm 95% sure that SanityCheck and senior88 are the same person.
That would be really surprising given that SanityCheck is a smart thoughtful poster while senior88 is not.
Lol, it's the internet. Things aren't always as they seem. I'd be curious to see the results if the mods ran an IP address check. I'm sure they'd like to know that one of their front page bloggers has a troll account.
-- Both associate Brady with this "JJC" poster and are the only ones to do so, see earlier in thread -- Both are same age (26), which is consistent with someone who has been on this site for 5 years -- senior88 hadn't posted in 4 years, and all of a sudden he decides to activate his account only to post a vitriol filled reply to a post I made in response to SanityCheck's thread where I criticized his HF decision -- Both have worked in IBD post graduation -- Both appear to be against an MBA but knowledgeable about it, which makes sense for someone who was in a pre-MBA PE role and decided to forgo the MBA route and go for hedge funds instead (SanityCheck)
Probably some other things too that I'm forgetting
Well, this thread went a bit off topic...If anyone has any questions not related to cocaine and sake bombs, I'd be happy to answer.
i dont even know how many sites ur on, but it's hard not to know you when u made over 10,000 posts over the past 5 years. i received a PM already from someone that confirmed it's u. anyone who clicks the first thread i posted can see what the real deal is. i didn't even know u posted here until i got linked through the other forums. have a good ngiht, im out.
Jesus guys. I mean we don't need to go all McGyver on Brady. Whether it is him or not, who cares. Always good for a laugh. Lets keep this jovial now.
I'm going McGyver on SanityCheck, not Brady. I find all Brady and faux-Brady posts quite entertaining, no matter how ridiculous.
not sure why brady here keeps denying he's jjc, its pretty clear right here when he's quoted by another user
http://www.wallstreetoasis.com/forums/how-have-ivy-league-colleges-chan…
please stop jizzing over bschool and stop trying to pick up hookers. i'm pretty sure ur future employer will not enjoy your illegal activities.

going concerni haven't even posted in 4 years until I saw brady's post here linked through xoxohth.com. i'm going for a Mba, not a hf and i never did ibanking, just an internship. only thing i criticized u for is reading comprehension.

I believe both Brady and mbavsmin are closer to 30 than 26.
I was talking about senior88/SanityCheck
WTH happened in this thread over the past day or two?
I'm pretty sure Brady swore off WSO. Last I checked he was running amok on econjobrumors.
illinois it's not just econjobrumors, he never left any of the forums he's posted on. he's unable to, and he has posted for the past 2 years on xoxohth.com as well, trolling lawyers about how great bschool is.
not only is his username quoted by other users, he has the exact same writing style that you see across 3 different forums that i quoted. jjc was also outed on xoxohth.com when they ran an IP check on him and saw him posting from chicago. i dont mind u spamming the boards with your nonsense, i just want people to know who you are.
the only thing this mbamfe alt did differently is try to claim he was bb S&T instead of prop trading. everything else is exactly 100% similar, down to even the same schools he was thinking of applying to.
btw, even more sad is his PUA accounts where he calls himself "prodigy" and tries to pick up girls (do a google search for jjc1122, he uses the same username for the past 10 years until he changed it to brady and then to mbamfe). of course he fails at this too and ends up paying for hookers. not very professional there brady.

That's some thorough stalking SC, almost award-winning. Where do you get all this free time?
are u referring to me? lol i'm not even in finance right now, at a startup and i can make my own hours. gonna apply to bschool this year and i hope it's as good as you say it is jjc.
no stalking at all, all the work has been done through dozens of other lawyers on xoxohth.com. anyone can read about you there.
I like how SanityCheck hasn't posted since 9/5 while senior88 coincidentally makes his first post on 9/7 after a 4 year hiatus.
Startup lol.
I'm sure Kellogg is thrilled to have this post on the front page
