Obsessed with Indian Food

Ok, I am cracking out right now thinking about delicious, tasty Indian food. Anyone else LOVE it like I do. I went to Bukhara Grill in NYC this weekend and I about died it was so good.

I grew up in a spice deprived household so I suppose this is the exact opposite. LOVE Indian food. I am actually thinking about going vegetarian and just eating paneer because it is so tasty. Garlic Naan is amazing. Yum.

If you are in NYC please check this place out. The lamb is to die for. Everything else is top notch.

I can't stomach Indian food these days, which is especially shameful since I'm Indian. Went to Kathi roll in the village over the weekend and still haven't recovered.

But yea, Bukhara grill is awesome

Eat at kathi roll all the time, but I feel roomali on lexington is much better

Those owners look like they've been eating too much of their food...

Should tell you a lot. Fat chefs/owners is akin to large insider ownership.

Actually centuries of low calorie diets bread the Indian people to be susceptible to gaining weight easier then western counterparts, evidently diabetes is a rising problem for Indian people.

Hoecakes, maize and pumpkins?!? Doesn't sound that great to me, lol.

I might have to try some Indian food as I don't think I've ever had any. Peruvian food is pretty decent.

Dude, Indian food looks a little scary at first, but once you try it you will be addicted. It is so spicy and veggie and delicious. Naan is like little pancakes from heaven.

I just ate tuna and almost cried from its lack of spicy :(

Vindaloooooo

Agreed Naan and Roti are amazing, chicken tikka masala, beef korma, and beef vindaloo is my usual rotation I go with when eating Indian. I'm with Monty though I like Thai over Indian but sushi over all of them

I know what you mean. I can't stomach some spicy food that my friends who live off boiled potatoes can.

Yeah, I've seen a bunch of Bollywood movies and they all remind me of Jay Z music videos. The lightest skinned Indians, balling our and dancing.

I really enjoyed the one I posted and 3 idiots.

Anyone watch Zee TV?

Agreed on indian food in general. Check out the restaurant Amaya Indian Bar & Grille next time you're in London. It's kind of pricey, but I'd literally pay double what they charge. That food is the closest thing to crack that's legal to sell anywhere in the planet.

England's food is generally terrible -- but then you discover the wealth of chronic Indian restaurants. There are TONS.

If you like really good spicy food you should try eating some "real" chinese food. If you're outside of china you'll have to go to a China-town to get what I'm talking about, but it's available there... Authentic Sichuan Cuisine. Spicy and delicious and also light and healthy.

Spot on with the Chinese food comment. What they actually eat in China is soo far from what we get at the mall food court (no surprise). I ate birds (maybe pigeons of some sort, lol), shark fin (fucking awesome) and went on a dumpling murdering spree!! I also ate a shit ton of ramen noodles when I was there because our dorms served Americanized Chinese food and some Chineseized American food. They gave use fucking crinkle cut french fries covered in sugar and sprinkles...WTF?!? Plus 10 for trying though, lol. Anyways, we got sick of the food on campus so the nights we didn't want to wander out or if we wanted a late night snack we grab some ramen noodles. They have so many flavors and different brands. Here in the states you have like 2 brands and like 3 different flavors, in China they have whole aisles dedicated to the stuff and they actually taste really good. They also have some weird ass flavors of chips, like shrimp, ketchup and some other off the wall things.

Oh, and all the women wear goofy Darth Vader looking face masks when riding their bikes in the street, lol.

Being that I am Indian, I have been eating Indian food my entire life..and nothing fills you up when you are starving like some hot spicy chicken makhani with naan. Best Indian food anywhere in america can be found in edison nj. Ive tried bukhara and all those places, but nothing compares to some of the places in edison. Drive up here sometime if you want good indian food. What sucks is rutgers has a huge indian population but nothing good on campus here so I usually have to travel to edison but its not too bad

Nothing compares to the food you get in india though. If you are a fan of indian food you havent lived until you actually ate in india..most of the stuff here seems fake compared to what you actually get in india

Yeah, I went to Edison for breakfast on Diwali. Place was all Indian. I am not a huge fan of Indian desserts, but I do enjoy those little black things that taste kind of peppery. I forget the name of the place I ate at, but it was good.

I had those little poof balls that you spoon the liquid in.

Yeah, I live in Philadelphia. PM me when you are home, we can meet up.

I am brought up eating Indian food and still eat Indian food 90% of the times. Haven't gained a lot of weight because of Indian food really. There is a lot of difference between everyday Indian food cooked in Indian families and what you get at restaurants. You need to pick healthy and less greasy choices and it is not very hard to cook less fattening Indian food at home.

As a consultant, I noticed that partners or someone who has been on the road for the longest time love Indian food. My guess is its mostly because their taste buds are null from eating regular food on the road for so long. We have this one partner, whenever he shows up, Indian food is a must, and many of the younger consultants are tired of it. One of my managers put Indian in the weekly rotation. One disappointing part is how most 'white' consumers limit their options to chicken tikka masala 80% of the time.

In NYC, I'd suggest venturing out to Jackson Heights, that's where they keep it real. There was this shabby looking Pakistani place, greatest thing ever.

Jackson Heights used to be good for Indian food about 4-5years ago. But, it has degraded a lot since then. Even though it has good Indian stores for grocery. I like Edison,Oak tree road over Jackson Heights for food.

Anthony,

I just spent the last week eating Indian food every day for 5 days straight. It was pure heaven. This wasn't the tradtional kind of Indian food we see here in the states, it was Thathai Bhatia Cuisine and it was amazing. I got spoiled with it and don't know how I'll be able to shift back to the more Punjabi style we find here in the states.

It is close to Rajasthani food if i am not wrong. I had so many Sindhi and Jodhpuri friends when I was in Dubai for a couple of years. Loved the food a lot, especially the sweets and daal baati churma...yummmm.

That reminds me that Dubai is a good place to try a variety of authentic cuisines. It is so diverse and multicultural and usually restaurants don't modify the food to suit a particular set of people, so you get authentic or close to authentic food of almost all the regions.

Daba, exactly.

I was in Dubai for a Sindhi wedding, hence my 5 day binge on that style cuisine. I've had Rajpoori and I like it alot as well. One of the better non-Indian cuisines I had was local Lebanese food. It was amazing. Oh, how I need to trek to Patterson now to enjoy Little Arabia's delectable selection of eateries.

I don't know how true this is but I've heard in Vietnam the places with the best pho broth actually add bags of marijuana to the broth to make it more savory.

Anyone into the occasional South Indian Dosa?

Yeah the 'Indian' restaurants on Leicester Sq are atrocious and you're right, they're all run by Bangladeshis! Try Masala Zone in Covent Garden/Islington. For South Indian Dosa, you can't beat Sarvana Bhawan in East Ham. I think there's a Sarvana Bhawan in NYC (Lexington Ave) and Chicago as well! The paneer dosa there is to die for and its unbelievably cheap - £3.5

lol, Saravana Bhawan (or rather, House of Saravana Bhavana) is tad overpriced in Toronto. The same goes for Vancouver and Montreal.

This is why I love America. People come from the world over and bring their delicious food. Where else can one have Japanese curry on Monday, Indian curry on Tuesday, Thai curry on Wednesday, Singaporean chili crab on Thursday and a colon transplant on Friday??

Has anyone been to Penang? (the restaurant not the Malaysian state) I can't speak about the Philly or NY locations but I've been to the one in Boston and their Roti Canai (similar to indian pancakes) are delicious and they serve it with chicken curry to dip with. IMO Malaysian style chicken curry is better than Indian chicken curry. However Malaysian iced tea sucks compared to Thai iced tea.

You might want to try Asha's at Wafi City. It has amazing Indian food and their champagne cocktail is amazing, the best I have had ever. Khazaana has a bit modified food sometimes. Khazaana uses a lot of food coloring to make the curry look red and sugar to the curry, too. It feels very Gujarati style Punjabi food. I have been there a couple of times and it hasn't been the best experience.

I would take a bath in chicken saag.

I like Brick Lane and Bukhara best in NYC personally though I've never tried the murdercurry at Bricklane.

For International_Pymp and other Beijing monkeys, when I was at BeiDa there was a restaurant by Wudaokou called "Ganges" which was pretty great-my roommate at the time's family was from the same part of India as the owner so he'd make us stuff off-menu and always gave us a ton of free food.
