I quit my job on the way to the airport while moving to the biggest competitor in Europe. Sold everything I owned and drove a rental car to work with my bags packed for the plane.

Good luck. You'll get over it. The people, if they aren't dbags, will congratulate you as a person even though it's a loss for the company.

LIKE A BOSS!

I quit my job at twitter to join youtube by tweeting my boss a link to a youtube video of me explaining why I'm leaving.

Well done.

Congrats on the offer.

One thing I don't understand is why everyone seems to so focused on making a splash with OP's exit. It seems that OP has a good relationship with his firm, and while he's leaving for a better opportunity in his opinion, still feels some bittersweet feelings about leaving. Maybe I'm wrong in this case, but I think exiting in general should conjure up mixed feelings in people. Yeah it's exciting that you're leaving a place that likely made you crank at all hours but hopefully you made some good friendships and relationships along the way too.

I spoke with the COO. He basically was just like everyone has been really impressed with my performance and that everyone would hate for me to leave. He immediately asked me what it would take to stay. I threw out a number (3x what I am currently making) and he said that it would probably be doable (I explained to him that It was not about the $$$). Everything is normal at work today. Nobody has brought up me leaving or given me weird looks. I want to just stop coming in, but they want me to find a replacement and train them before I leave next week...

Wait... you asked your boss to triple your salary after 6 months on the job and he said that would be "doable"? What kind of shop do you work at??

Seriously... I would want to work at any place willing to triple my salary on request.
