Group Interview
Interview
Had a referral from networking with an employee and applied online through their job portal. Had a phone screening basically just going over resume/interests. Was asked to come to the office and have a group interview. Never received any status update after the (relatively) positive interview.
Interview Questions
Tell me about yourself outside of your resume. A lot of focus on interests/personality and what kinds of clubs and orgs you are involved with at school. Wanted really specific reasoning for why you selected your major, why Aberdeen, why investment management, etc. Wanted me to pitch a stock/investment and then they asked me questions about it. Reviewed specific metrics about the company (ex: iPhone sales for last quarter for AAPL) mainly to test your memory and focus. Asked me about the networking contact I had.

Only a single assessment center after filling up an extremely long application form with 5-6x 300 word questions. AC consisted of two 1:1 interviews and one group exercise with a presentation at the end.
Interview Questions
1. “Why did you pick ____ business school?”

2. “What would you do after work? Do you have any hobbies?”

3. “What are the key attributes that you think make a good equity research analyst?”

4. “Which was your favorite non-finance subject in your undergraduate degree?”

5. “Why did you decide to go into finance, especially seeing as you studied engineering for your undergraduate degree?”

6. “What is your biggest weakness? What have you done or what are you planning to do to address this issue?”

Interview
I applied online to the Kuala Lumpur office with CV and cover letter. I went through a first round interview and was offered a final round interview.
Interview Questions
Most of the questions were fairly standard and easy. They were very interested in the fact that I did a spring internship at BlackRock Portfolio Analytics group, hence they asked me what did I learn during that internship and they asked me to be as specific as possible. Other questions include why was I interested in Aberdeen Asset Management and some competency questions. Since it was just a first round interview, it is just basic screening and the interview was fairly short and straightforward.
