Please describe the interview / hiring process.
Initial communications with the company began with a referral to a managing director who was a family friend. While looking for contacts at a major bank (switching from engineering hoping to move to trading) the first contact was set up as an informational interview where I asked questions about his job and role at the firm. I did not make any approach or ask for an official interview to work in the group, though I came away having learned about what a technology division does at a bank. A week or two later I received a call from one of the MD's direct reports, an SVP who was looking to hire a business analyst and to whom my resume had been passed along. She briefly described the role and set up an on-site interview. There was only 1 interview with standard "walk me through" questions in addition to an overall behavioral format (not intense at all) and several very basic technical questions on software familiarity. One question was related to technical finance knowledge. The interview lasted 30-40 minutes, followed a very conversational flow. An offer was made later that day by phone.
