Operations Intern

The process was several stages long. The drop box posted by my university's career services website required a 3.5 minimum to even apply. I didn't have this; but I did make a strong impression on the MD (who for some reason personally showed up to our career fair). He liked me, gave me his card, and told me about a networking event I should attend. I was literally the only student who showed up on time; so for the first 20 minutes to half hour, I literally had 2 MD's, a couple of VP's, and a few analysts all to myself. I made the most of it and by the end of it I was told to just apply through the Citi website and they would make sure I interviewed.

First up was a 2 minutes phone interview from HR. Sort of a pointless endeavor; they wanted to make sure I knew what the position was about (not that the HR rep did) and that I wasn't on a work visa or something like that.

Next was the interview. 2 separate interviewers (in my case a VP and an HR rep, but this varied. Some people saw an analyst and an MD; and at least one person I know saw 2 MD's). All fit questions; nothing even remotely finance/accounting/analytical related was asked. I made a strong impression on the VP; and he let me know as much. I screwed the pooch with the HR rep though. Not really going to blame anyone but myself on that; I got flustered and then couldn't make my way back. It didn't help that this was literally my 1st internship interview so I sort of chalked it up as a learning experience.

Needless to say, I wasn't invited back to superday. That was that.
