Summer Analyst - CB RE

Interviewed for the commercial banking real estate group for a summer analyst position. Applied on LinkedIn and was invited to a first round interview within 2 weeks.

First round was with 2 analysts and consisted of simple questions:

Tell me about yourself.
Why Citi?
Why are you interested in Real Estate?
What is a REIT?
From an executive perspective, what characteristics make a company a good lending target?
What is a Cap Rate and how do you calculate it?

Was moved to round 2 after about a week and the interview was with 2 more analysts from the group and an associate. Second round consisted of the following questions:

Walk me through your resume.
What makes you stand out from other candidates?
Can you tell me about a publicly traded REIT?
What does debt look like for a REIT?
Which real estate sectors are more risky?
Can you tell me about a deal you worked on at your previous internship?
What was the biggest qualitative and quantitative takeaway from your previous internship?

It isn't difficult to find the REITs that Citi works with, research and talk to those.

Didn't move past second round. Group was very friendly and overall interview process was relaxed.
