Summer Associate Intern

Long hiring process for two positions in different teams under the IB umbrella. Took close to two months. Was working full time at a large commercial bank (JPM Chase, TD Bank, BofA) and was contacted by internal SocGen recruiter for two positions after having applied 3 to 4 months prior to some other positions. Each new position had unique hiring process.

First position was one on one interviews, 4 rounds. Interviewed with the hiring MD, then met his boss, met hiring HR rep, and then the North American head of Energy and Commodities at SG. focusing mostly on fit with little technical questions outside of my past career experience.

Second position was 3 rounds, first round met with 4 people one on one, ala super day. Interviewed with analyst, associate, VP, and MD. Second round was case study which required basic modeling. Final round was more of a meet and greet (the MD told me I was their #1 candidate) with LevFin analyst and associate. "Super day" was focusing on fit with some technical questions regarding my background and how to approach leveraged deals. Case was technical but not overly difficult. Meeting with LevFin team was casual and more "airport test", although the analyst asked for light technicals (rates, free cash flow, basic LBO accounting). Associate made fun of analyst for asking me technicals.

Was offered both positions, picked position two, working with LevFin and M&A teams. Was not aware, nor told, during the hiring process that both positions were IB Analyst Program. I thought they were Middle Office...
