Please describe the interview / hiring process.
I applied online for McKinsey APD in November and heard back in December. In January, I went out to regional office for the IWIA. At the IWIA, I took the PST and then we broke out into small groups for practice cases. After a day or two I received notification that I passed and was invited back for round 2. About 2 weeks later, I again flew out to the regional office for the 2nd round of interviews. the 2nd round consisted of one interview with an associate and one with an engagement manager. The first interviewer was fairly grumpy and got down to business very quickly. PEI and then case. The second interviewer was extremely pleasant. Our PEI evolved into a long conversation about my thoughts on the industry we both were a part of. This finished with a case. A few days later I received a call from the grumpy associate with the good news that I had passed. Based off my location preferences, I went out to a differnet office and interviewed with 3 partners. 1 principal and 2 associate principals. The interviews were largely the same as the 1st round, except the math was slightly trickier and the questions were more big picture oriented (expanded upon in the additional insight). This round involved some financial terminology that I was unfamiliar with and had to ask for an explanation from the partner. Overall they were were all very pleasant people. A few days later I received a call saying they could not extend an offer at this time. Feedback was to get more acquainted with business and work on structuring issues before diving into it.
