Interview
I applied on LinkedIn in February of 2024 as a finance/math student. In early March I got a phone interview from an HR rep and it went like a personality interview, like explain times something didn't go my way or when I was faced with a tight deadline. I think it was the next week or 2 I got a Zoom interview with 2 Mercer employees, one from actuary and another investments. They asked questions about projects and coursework, but I wouldn't classify it as a technical interview--it was as technical as you wanted to make it. They then asked questions about why I was interested in Mercer and their wealth business. This was in mid-March. In early April, I got an offer for the remote summer externship.
Interview Questions
I was applying for the investments side of the wealth business, so I wasn't expecting them to ask me so many questions to see my knowledge of actuaries. Looking back, it makes sense, as the two functions collaborate extensively at Mercer.

Interview
I applied through an online site and quickly (1-2 days later) received a request to complete a hirevue interview. In the hirevue, I was asked the question such as "If you were to explain what we do to someone else, how would you explain it?" and then was asked several behavioral/situational questions. After they reviewed my hirevue, I was invited to a formal interview with lots of other potential candidates. We started in a zoom room and then were sent to 4 different breakout rooms, each for 30 minutes with only one interviewer. Questions were generally behavioral and most of the interviewers made the interview seem like a conversation that flowed easily and made the whole process quite comfortable. They notified me of their decision about a week later.
Interview Questions
The question that I felt was most difficult was "if you were to explain to someone else what we do, what would you say?"

Applied online cold and received an invitation for a phone screen a week or two later. Phone screen with recruiter who then setup 3 separate zoom interviews with different members of the team. All very professional and straight forward. Some technical and behavioral questions with no case studies, estimations or tests.
Interview Questions
Nothing terribly difficult. Had to provide in-depth, specific examples for how I setup excel databases, managed them, and then used them for analysis.

Group Interview
Interview
I got an interview after networking with a full time analyst at the firm. After a resume screen I was invited to their office for a panel interview.
Interview Questions
After I got asked to tell them about my past experiences, they dug deeper in and asked more questions that I expected they would have. The role was a soft skill driven one, but they were interested in the technical details of the work I'd done in the past. They also asked me why I thought I would be doing in the role, and why I was a good fit. The role was a niche area so answering that would have been difficult had I not networked and asked questions prior to the interview. I was also asked if I had any questions for the three interviewers.
