Interview
Interviewed with the Default & Ratings Analytics team. The position is about validating the performance of Moody's credit rating. First screening interview by outsourced recruiter, then by a team member, then onsite interview with 4 30-min interviews.

Was declined as I failed to answer the programming questions and I did not come from a programming background. I was also caught off-guard by statistics questions as I did not think the job was overly technical and therefore did not prepare extensively for it. One of the interviewer drilled me on unnecessary questions, such as asking for the valuation multiples of an industry I covered in an internship 2 years ago.

Overall, the interview felt impersonal but I still liked some of the interviewers nonetheless.
Interview Questions
1. Construct an NPV formula using 2 vectors and show me your thought process.

2. What is an appropriate IRR return range and valuation multiple of the software industry?

3. You realized a mistake in the presentation that your boss prepared and you were the only one about to give presentation to the client. Your boss is uncontactable. How would you approach this issue?

4. Detailed questions on my prior work experience and the company.

5. Why are you looking to switch after 6 months on the job?

1 phone interview before being asked back for in-person. The in-person interviews involved 1 1-on-1 interview, and 2 group interviews.

All of the interviews (including the phone interview) were not behavioral - most of the conversation was about project finance and utilities. They were definitely looking for someone with a lot of accounting background. Many accounting / financial statements questions. Know your statements in detail. Also many questions about the utility industry.
Interview Questions
1. Talk about what is going on in the utility industry along with infrastructure.

2. What are some non-cash items on the cash flow statement?

3. If you were to evaluate an airport for a rating, what items/categories would you look at?

4. What are some major components of an airport?

5. How would you evaluate local highways, or bridges for quality ratings?

6. Which methodology did you find most interesting and why?

7. Talk about the importance of the income statement and describe in detail.

Phone call/screen with a recruiter before another phone call with a hiring manager. She asked me about my back background and then we talked for 20 minutes about the firm. Very pleasant.

Super day was 2 separate interviews with 2 people each. Again very pleasant and mostly behavioral.
Interview Questions
If you were in a meeting with the CFO of a company and were the lead analyst, what questions would you ask?
I asked what industry (they said any industry but said you can use consumer product) then asked;
Revenue - What's the quality of the revenue? ie how likely are previous years clients staying with you?
Costs- How are margins? Operating leverage? What one time costs might affect your ability to pay back debt?
Debt- Whats your debt issuance going forward? How can you mitigate one time costs against your debt profile?

3. What do you think we could do better. I gave some recommendations on their website.

I got a phone interview from the hiring manager. The position is about validating the performance of Moody's credit rating.
Interview Questions
Do you know about the assumption of linear regression?
Some maths problems. Not very easy, but a little different from we normally learned in the class. But you can still work out possible solutions.
Questions about SQL.
Kinds of questions about the resume and the related work experiences. Very detailed.
In all, the mathematics questions are hard to solve, and I become a little nervous when faced with such questions.
It seems you need some programming skills, like Python and SQL. A medium level SQL question.

Met the HR recruiters at campus recruiting session. Heard about the session through a friend, and I decided to drop by. HR is very friendly, and spoke extensively with MD .
Interview Questions
What is your favorite book? what is your favorite espresso machine? (Resume said I worked in a coffee shop). How do you handle pressure at school/ how do you handle your academic load. Why did you major in X&Y. how are you different? why should we hire you?

Some difficult parts were the group interviews. I was interviewed by senior people from different lines of business 1 on 1 and also 1 on 2.

I was also asked about my excel skills. I responded that I was an expert in excel (was in college, so didn't know better) and interviewer shot me down saying that no one is an expert on anything. I corrected myself by saying fairly competent in excel.
