General Interview Information
Interview Details
The interview started with a presentation on sustainable finance, which I had to deliver. After that, they asked me a series of follow-up questions about the future of investment banking and MUFG’s role in sustainability—whether it will be important going forward, how MUFG fits into the space, and the broader implications for the industry. It was clear that sustainability is a key focus for them, so having a solid understanding of ESG trends is definitely helpful.
After that, we moved on to technical questions. They asked me to walk through the three financial statements (Income Statement, Balance Sheet, and Cash Flow Statement) and explain how they connect. They also asked me to pick the most important statement and justify my choice. Pretty standard IB technicals, nothing out of the ordinary.
The last part of the interview was a CV walkthrough. They had me go through my background, then asked a few follow-up questions about specific experiences. They seemed to be testing both my ability to explain my past roles clearly and how my experience aligned with the role.
Overall, the interview was a balanced mix of technicals, industry awareness, and fit. The sustainability angle stood out the most, so I’d recommend preparing for questions around ESG and MUFG’s position in the market. It wasn’t the most technical interview, but you still need to know your fundamentals well.
