Interview
Round 1 was 4 1x1 verbal interviews. Technical questions asking about market size builds from top down, where the product fits in cost structure of costumer, margins replacement capex unit economics.
Interview Questions
Case study was challenging. Week to study company and where you would invest. Crux of the interview was segment level valuation — gave research model to assist in process. Review consisted of groups head and all junior people firing off questions. Specifically what were breakeven prices both for unleavened and levered cash flows. The answer, which I didn’t get, was noticing the off market contract gobbling up 50% of exitba showing up as opex...could you reject the contract in bankruptcy and EV would give control to the bonds.

Process involved in-depth modelling test, case study on china consumer, meeting with pm, meeting with cio, meeting with HR, and a final review.
Interview Questions
How would you price a security? Whats the right price or wrong price? Also the CIO asked me questions on how to price a certain 3rd party research firm's products, and what would be the logic behind my answer. Mostly they wanted to understand how you think, and why.

Another difficult question I got was to analyse a company's model without knowing the company's name. You can only see historical numbers, like sales growth, margins, capex, debt etc... When you have time constraints, it is really difficult to answer in a time effective manner. So be prepared for that.

Interview
Phone interview with human resources. Came into the office and met with multiple analysts, associates, vice presidents, managing directors, principals, etc. Invited back for super day in which I met with some of the same people and some new people. Very in depth and challenging recruitment process experience. Overall, extremely impressed with the firm's employees and culture.
Interview Questions
How would you calculate a cap rate for a REIT? What is a cap rate? Walk me through a pro forma. If you have two buildings that are exactly the same, and one has a 55% LTV and 4% rate, and the other building has a 85% LTV and a 3% rate, which building would you buy? What is a discount rate? Is a cap rate a levered or unleveled metric? What are the risk and return profiles for a office building? What is 11 cubed? Why do you want to work at Och-Ziff? Where else are you interviewing? Are we your top choice? If you can throw a baseball at 55mph, how long would it take you to throw a baseball from shortstop to first base? How about from center field to the pitcher?

Personality Test
Interview
initial phone call with head of trading. I was referred by a former coworker at my previous firm. Met in-person with head of trading, 5 traders, 3 portfolio managers and investment analysts, head of trading operations. People were friendly and the interviews were easygoing- a couple of quick brainteasers that were not too difficult. Office was a bit stuffier that some of the other places I had interviewed.
Interview Questions
What value do you think you can add to the team that the current trading team probably doesn't?

Emphasis on managing transaction costs because of my analytical background.
What was your biggest failure over the past year?

I traded into a big position too slowly expecting the price to mean-revert. Missed out on a lot of alpha.

Interview
Internal recruiter contacted me directly having been given my name by several of my peers to run a particular regional equity area within Och Ziff. Initial interview was with HR and an analyst with a similar geography, second round was with analyst, HR sector specialist and head of London office, third round was with an multiple analysts, with significantly more technical questions and a case study. Gap between interviews was long.
Interview Questions
Technical questions as standard, particularly on the equity side you need to be au fait with all pricing and modelling mechanisms
Questions over the investment model of Och Ziff (multi-strategy with local overlays) need some thinking of, you don't want to offend them!
