What did the interview consist of?
1 on 1 Interview
Please describe the interview / hiring process.
The first interview was on campus and very basic and conversational. The application process only included a resume drop, as well as filling out an online application on their site. They gave me a run-down of the role as an analyst, that I would be given a decent amount of responsibility, etc. It was pretty easy behavioral/fit, but this may have been because they were both alumni from my school. The only technical asked was how I would value an apartment complex, but it was relatively straight forward and I just used logic. I also brought up different real estate metrics like NOI, as well as cap rates, so even if you are not a real estate major, it helps to demonstrate interest and show that you've gone out of your way to learn the basics.

The second round was in Chicago and started with a lunch, after which we were given an overview of the company through a presentation showing some of the large deals they've underwritten recently. Associates were also at the lunch, representing mostly the Ivies, and the prospective interns were a mix of Ivies, Emory, and a few from UGA. For the actual interviews, we all got an office, and then interviewers would come into your room for 30 minutes, with 5 minute breaks in between. Some conversation were completely fit, but some had technical questions like "What is WACC" and "What are the three ways to value a property?"

Definitely have a good reason for "Why Real Estate?" as I think that my poor answer was actually the reason I did not leave with an offer. Also be prepared for Brain Teasers... most of the interviewers were really nice, but a couple were obviously trying to play mind games. I interviewed with 4 M.D's, 2 VP's, and 2 Associates, then was asked to rank geographical preferences, received a thank you note, and was on my way.
