Background Check
Please describe the interview / hiring process.
I applied for a position in the Financial Instruments, Structured Credit and Real Estate Group (FSR) of PwC through campus recruiting at University of Maryland, College Park. I was then given an on-campus interview by an FSR professional. The interview was very short (~15 minutes). The interviewer told me several times that he really liked my resume. He wasn't interested in asking any real questions beyond "getting-to-know-you" formalities. I was then advanced to the next level called "super-day". PwC put me on a train up to New York. All travel and hotel expenses were covered by the firm of course. The night I arrived there was a social for the interns where they had a chance to meet and get to know some of the current Associates and Senior Associates. This was of course a test to assess how the interns socialized and if they could fit in with the culture. The next day I was scheduled with 3 interviews. One with a managing director and two partners (one the lead partner of the group). The first interview with the managing director focused a little bit on my extracurricular activities at school and past internship experience. This portion lasted about 15 minutes. The interview was scheduled for 30 minutes but ended up taking an hour. The remaining 45 minutes was spent discussing politics, which was a little strange. My second interview was with an influential partner in then group. It was a tough interview as she was not focused and did not ask questions. She seemed distracted and it felt as if she wanted to see if I could lead the interview. I did my best to talk about my previous experience and why I felt PwC was a good fit for me. However, she really lit up when I asked her about herself - where she is from, how old her kids are, etc. My third interview with the lead partner was cancelled as he was busy. A couple weeks later I was extended an offer for the internship. After my internship, I was extended an offer for a full-time position for the following year.
