Simply put, as a company gets more reviews, the confidence of a "true score" increases so it is pulled closer to its simple average and away from the average of the entire dataset.

Interview
Had an initial call with one of the Principals of the firm. Spoke about my resume and past experience. Asked why I wanted to go into PE and explained to me that there is a very structured path when getting into PE in South Florida. Generally, the path is to work a few years at an IB and then come in as a 1st Year Associate and that they prefer to hire from firms down here (Ie. Suncap, etc). Asked some behavioral questions and at the end informed me that he didn't think it would be a good fit. Really kind and personable over the phone and although I did not advance past the phone screening, the firm seems to have an excellent culture from what I could tell with speaking with one of the Principals.

Interview
First round consisted of a few phone interviews with various people. This was not difficult or much different than a few other firms I interviewed with. It consisted mainly of fit questions and walking through my resume and deals (I was in investment banking at the time). Final round was at the offices and there were a few other candidates there as well. It was a full day of interviews with each of the investment professionals (10-12) and a group lunch in the middle. The interviews with the individuals varied widely between (1) fit questions, (2) technical questions in finance and accounting (the WSO questions would cover it all, and (3) case study-esque questions which were more situational in nature and tested your ability to understand what aspects of a business make it good vs. bad. There was also a simple three statement cash flow modeling test - it was easy (no LBO modeling).
Interview Questions
Interviewer gave you a few aspects of a business - price, volume, margins, fixed costs, variable costs, depreciation and taxes. He then gave a few scenarios (i.e. increase price $x vs. volume x units, chg. in variable vs. fixed costs) and you needed to determine which scenarios were most beneficial to the company. It essentially just tested your understand of the income statement, and made sure that you weren't memorizing questions.
Tell me about a business you worked on - what were the highlights and risks? Did the transaction close? Would you have invested in it? Why or why not?
