Honestly if I had to work for an insurance company would most definitely be Rothesay.

CIO used to be an ABS trader, they have quite a lot of exposure to structured products and Equity release mortgages (check their annual fillings).

Have worked with them on a few things, decently smart folk but they’re not Elliott (i.e. they will overpay).

they’re also growing, recently hired an MD from MS in their structured products group. Generally a good sign if you’re hiring seniors in this market.

edit: to answer your question as with most insurance companies it’s asset allocation, when there’s a public deal you’ll assess the assets, liability structure etc and determine if you want to buy. Will virtually only buy AAA-A rated stuff.
