Big 4 Strat Consulting: 1 Year Anniversary: Next Step?!

I know thoughts will vary and that there is no right answer. I would truly appreciate any opinions :)

Spent the last year at a Big 4 in NYC doing transaction services and strategy consulting. Want to apply to business school next year. I know I would be an early candidate (3 years at matriculation). I have a 720 right now on the GMAT.

If I stay at my current post, I should be in line for a promotion next year. BUT, I am considering looking for a true management consulting position at a mid-tier firm (think Accenture-level) in a different geographical market. I've gotten great reviews so far, but want to focus on MC and shed the Big 4 stereotype.

Would I be hurting my chances at a top 10 mba program if I made the switch? What should I be warned about? My end goal is to earn an opportunity to intern at a top-tier consulting firm during my time at business school.

Thanks for reading!
