Deciding between Internships
Background info: Rising sophomore from a semi-target/target school planning on going into Management Consulting (Strategy).
So for the fall semester, I am planning to have my first internship and have two options right now lined up and need to decide which one will help put me in a better place/ give better experience.
Choice 1: Intern at a tech startup and being a marketing strategist/ help in business development. It seems less to be less work than the other one and I am still working pretty closely with the founders. Working here could help me build the case on why I want to go into consulting because I used to love marketing and could go from that to being a strategist to going into consulting.
Choice 2: Intern at a NPO and work under the founder where I am in charge of business development and reaching out to big companies. He says in the past he was able to reach out and connect with companies like Dominion's Pizza and the MLB to support the NPO and I feel like this would help my resume if I could do something similar.
Both are unpaid and will be my first internship so I am curious what people think would be a good starting off point
There are 2 main things to consider here: the brand name of the organization and the impact you'll have on the job.
My guess here is that neither of the organizations is well known. In which case, pick the job where you'll have the most personal impact/responsibilty. With biz dev being a part of both jobs, find out the extent of your responsibility at each job. Would you be just updating CRMs at one job but actually pitching to prospects at the other?
