"How some men fake an 80 hour work-week and why it matters" - interesting New York Times article

Did anyone see today's article in the NY Times by Neil Irwin in the Upshot section? Interesting discussion of how men and women in careers such as consulting, IB, accounting, etc can sometimes approach family flex time differently. Really interested in hearing how often the "Ask forgiveness, not permission" adage applies to people's firms, since I always thought the opposite would be true.

I read this and it seemed pretty hard to believe. Would love to hear more details if anyone has had success with the "passing" technique the article discusses. It mostly sounded to me like some people are able to maneuver into a sweet spot where everyone covers for each other. Sounds like a fragile, sketchy situation.
