How to ask ex MBB coworker for recommendation?

Currently working in a strategy position in a tech company as a fresh grad. I am looking to apply to MBB after a year or two and I want to make a good impression. The ex MBB is the head of corporate strategy and former EM with 1 level of separation (so my boss' boss).

How do I approach him and continue to outdeliver projects? He knows my planned track would be working in tech and consulting with MBA in the near future.
