Is it red flag to apply for intern and full-time positions at MBB?

Hi all,

I'm a senior graduating in December. My goal is to get an offer at MBB full time after graduation. If I strike out, I'm willing to do a masters as well. Is it viewed as a lack of commitment if I apply to internships open now and then also to full time in the summer?

Based on the most helpful WSO content, applying for both internship and full-time positions at MBB is not inherently a red flag. However, it’s important to approach this strategically:

  1. Demonstrate Commitment: Ensure your applications clearly convey your genuine interest in the firm and your long-term commitment to consulting. Tailor your resume and cover letter to highlight why you’re a strong fit for MBB and how your goals align with their values.

  2. Networking is Key: Engage with alumni, attend info sessions, and have coffee chats with consultants at your target firms. Building relationships can help reinforce your commitment and increase your chances of securing an interview.

  3. Timing Considerations: If you’re applying for internships now and plan to apply for full-time roles later, be prepared to explain your reasoning during interviews. For example, you could mention that you’re exploring opportunities to gain experience and contribute to the firm in any capacity.

  4. Backup Plan: If you don’t secure a full-time offer, pursuing a master’s degree is a solid option. Use that time to strengthen your profile, gain relevant experience, and reapply with a stronger application.

Ultimately, MBB firms value candidates who are proactive and determined. As long as you present yourself as a serious and committed applicant, applying to both internships and full-time roles should not be a problem.
