Miami BASED Consulting Firms?

Hello there. I am wondering if there are any larger Miami based Consulting firms, as I cannot seem to find this information.

I will be attending the University of Florida, and as they won't have a significant reputation outside of Florida, they do have quite an impact I've heard on hiring within Florida. I do hate Miami with ALL of my heart, but if it would only be for a few years, I think I could manage. Thanks for your time.

Oh, I guess Fort Lauderdale would be fine as well.

Also: Is it easier to find better consulting jobs if you don't want to be in the prime market(NYC,etc.)? I'd be more than fine with relocating to somewhere such as Charlotte or Grand Rapids, or pretty much anywhere out of Florida.

I live in Miami, and I understand the hating it with ALL of your heart part, but after a while, you just learn to accept you're not in America anymore.

Anywho, you may want to check out Protiviti, a consulting firm in Fort Lauderdale. Also, check with the Business Advisory Services and Transaction Advisory Services of any of the Big 4 or other large accounting firms (i.e., Kaufman and Rosin, RSM McGladrey, Grant Thornton, etc.)...they typically prefer to hire people with finance degrees.

Hope that helps.

Looked into them, I'll definitely interview with them when I get to UF...Side question: When you interview for a firm, if they have offices in various places, how do they go about placing you? Like, if you definitely want to relocate, are they usually willing to place you elsewhere?

Well, the standard phrase is "market needs" in regards to placement. But if you're given an offer you want to accept, that may be an issue to bring up during negotiations. At the very least, they could provide with a future opportunity to relocate (i.e., within 1-2 years) if you feel that strongly about it. And honestly, with the cost of living in Miami, shoot out a cheaper place to live to them. They can offer you a smaller salary, which cuts down on their payroll costs, and you get a decent place to live at a discounted cost. Essentially, it's a win-win situation.

Good luck!

:-)

And of course, there's the obvious...apply for jobs in organizations that would require relocation in the first place.

UF does have national recognition b/c of your sports teams, but I think that "party school" reputation may be a bit of a handicap in the national job search. Best bet? Network with alumni outside of Florida...that should get you started on the right path.

Your going to be traveling 80%(Mon-Thur) of the time if you want to do consulting, How important is your home base given you're only going to be there 3 days a week?

My friends who have gone that route have had great flexibility in regard to picking their home location. They just needed to be near a major airport. (think Accenture, Deloitte, and IBM consulting)

Correct me if I'm wrong, but you're not asking the question because you want to live only in Florida. You're asking the question because you feel like that's where your application will look the strongest from a UF background, right?

My single piece of advice (aside from doing recruiting with all the consulting firms that come to your campus, because the local ones will show up too), is this:

Network with your school alumni. Chances are that many will have stayed local and in consulting, and they'll be your best answer to which firms hire locally and are strong in Florida.

Hope that helps.
