I was lucky enough to receive an invitation to begin the recruiting process with MBB at an overseas office. I say lucky, because I graduated from a non-target school and currently work as a second year analyst for Accenture - from reading this forum, I understand it is rare to lateral from ACN to MBB.
They notified me today that the first step in the recruiting process will occur on Monday - in their local office! Am I really expected to drop everything and buy a $1,500 plane ticket to attend on such short notice? The confirmation email that I received said that they only reimburse for travel within their country (bus, train, taxi, etc.)...
I immediately replied thanking them and asking for them to allow me to take the first step in either their office nearest to where I live, or nearest to my current client site in a different state. No reply yet, but I thought I'd put out a feeler and ask you guys if I did the right thing.
Thoughts?

Just to update anyone that cares, I was able to take the PST in a US office near my current client location. I passed, and am assuming that they will be covering the cost of my international flight for the first round case interview. Is this correct?
congrats and good luck with your interviews. depending on the international office, it's every possible you'll just end up doing all of your interviews at one of the u.s offices. at least this is the case for undergrad international recruiting. just curious, did you apply through their online system or had someone pass your resume internally?
I applied online. So much for nobody getting selected from those applications!
I did go to a target school's recruiting event and had a few email conversations with people I met, though. Not sure if it helped, but here I am with at least an interview in hand :).

They will interview you via video conferencing, i doubt if they will fly you out

Thanks for the information guys! I do hope it's not a video conference interview - I can't imagine anything more awkward than solving cases over webcam! I'll let you all know how it goes!
Just wanted to update this thread - this has truly been one of the worst recruiting experiences that I've ever been through. I'm STILL waiting to take my first round interview (after passing the PST), as they have rescheduled no less than 10 times on me. As of now, the tentative date is within the next week or two, and it will be an in-person interview in one of the US offices, along with a webcam interview that same day. It's been extremely difficult to work around their scheduling issues, since this entire time I am still on traveling Accenture engagements.
I truly expected better from MBB, and am starting to lean towards F500 corporate strategy as an exit from Accenture instead. At least with F500 corporate strategy I have had no issues getting interviews and actually attending them...
Don't let HR be a reflection of the company. They do have a take it or leave it mentaility (but that's because they can). They left my Rhodes Scholar friend hang in limbo for a bit also. But, why are you applying to another country's office, instead of one in the US?
Because I came from a non-target and Accenture background. I think the only reason I got the interview was that I speak the language in the other country very well, as I was raised with it. Doubt I would get past the screens for US offices, so I'm taking what I can get. If accepted, I would try to move back to the US ASAP :).
i take it you're getting burned out from accenture SI? I've seen some Accenture SI consultants bolt immediately after promotion from analyst to MBB.
I started in SI, but was on top of my game and switch to MC after a few months. I've actually had a really good Accenture experience, having done S&O work along with the usually associated implementations, etc. I'd really want to bolt just for the business school opportunities, and to ensure that I never get stuck doing things I truly would not want to do.
Is this an Asia office? Personally I would actually choose an Asia office over a non-core U.S office (NY, SF, Boston). I think having relevant international experience will be a good point of differentiation if you are thinking about bschool
It is a European office in a country that has the possibility to be one of the emerging economies, especially in PE and Finance (as I see it).
