Salary in Financial Services - Management Consulting

Hello WSO,

Do any of you have insight into salaries at Big4 firms (Deloitte, KPMG, EY, PwC) in relation to Financial Services M&A Integration work? This is called "Management Consulting" by all the firms; however, I doubt the strength is anything close to the Big 3. I have no MBA, been working under financial audit for 2 years and IT Audit for 3 years and planning to transition as a Manager. I've heard NY ranges are fairly wide depending on experience, but am interested to hear from the experienced crowd here. Anybody work in these groups or know the range for NY M&A Managers? I've looked at glassdoor, but the ranges are significant and I will probably have to negotiate quite a bit. I wouldn't be willing to make the move for anything less than $125-130. Does this seem unreasonable to you guys? Thanks for your feedback.

I know some people at one of the big 4 in M&A Strategy which I believe is the group you are referring. I also know a few in valuation economic consulting and think a post-MBA manager would probably start at the top of that range if not slightly north of that ($140-145) depending on what firm and how well you negotiate. However, all managers I know at big 4 have more than 5 years of experience and all are MBAs. From what I know post-MBAs at big 4 start as senior associates circa $110 in NY (which means 3-5 years experience plus 2 years of b-school) so not sure if your comp would be closer to $110 or $140. My advice is to negotiate.

This is pretty much 100% in line with the info I've heard from my close connections and the market data I have seen. I think in that industry, they are going to penalize you for not having an MBA. Why not get one now, at least part time? Seems like if that is the move you want to make, with the experience you have, it would be extremely beneficial.

Thanks bud_fox1933,

I have no MBA, so this is really a good opportunity at the time. I know they will throw out a lowball offer - so there will be nothing else to do but negotiate. The Big4 world does not have the best reputation regarding this "expertise" or "skillset"; however, it is the smoother transition at this point. Thanks.
