Should I apply to consulting while waiting to be admitted to business school.

I am currently waiting to be admitted to business school (1 year MBA program in Europe). If everything goes fine, I will start in January 2014. After the business school I want to get into consulting and my question is:

Is it worth trying to switch into consulting now, work there for half a year, get MBA and return to the same firm? Or is it a stupid dream of a brain dead idiot and I should go kill myself?

I am now working in industry and will leave my current employer anyway (regardless of wheteher I will be admitted to business school or not) and given my background I think I might have a chance to get a pre-MBA position in consulting.
