Tier 2 to T1/Elite Boutique

I know this has been answered many times, but with the state of the consulting industry and their uptick in hirings, how hard is it to lateral to a MBB/Booz/Oliver Wyman/LEK/Monitor/Parthenon? I know some people say it's nearly impossible unless you can an MBA.

a little background - part of the strategy group at my firm (only makes up about 5% of the firm) 1 year MC analyst, project work so far has been process improvement and not pure strategy...so the engagement hasn't been the most rewarding, so i'm looking to make my move. I've applied online but haven't reached out to alumni or done any networking.

Any input and suggestions would be nice.
