transferring from semi target to target

skip to questions if this is too long)

I just finished my third semester at vanderbilt. I am planning a career in consulting (not too interested in IB at the moment). As Vanderbilt is only a semi-target except for the Southern Offices, I am considering transferring to a solid target school.

Frankly, I don't know much on how Vanderbilt is perceived in prestige at the national level. At the international level, Vandy seems to be doing poorly with little people knowing the school. This is actually one of the reasons I am planning on transferring as I am an international student. Although I do plan on starting my career in the U.S, I know that H-1B visa is rather difficult nowadays. In case things go south and that I have to return to my home country, I need a more widely known school to increase the opportunities in my career.

I don't really dislike Vanderbilt. Although I am not overly fond of the school, I think I lean more on the positive side. Actually, I don't think I care too much on college life- I'm insensitive in that regards. (don't ask me why. i dont know) Therefore, choosing a school on culture is less meaningful for me. Besides, it's corona era and Im pretty sure i will have to wait until next year to be on campus. (so no need to stress fit. i have friends at many schools to know the general sense of each school's atmosphere, and it really doesn't matter.)

I have a GPA of around 3.7, which is above average for a kid at Vandy since Vandy is not lenient on GPA compared to its peers.

So that's just some background. Here are my questions:

  1. How is Vanderbilt perceived at the national level? Is it on par with Cornell, Brown, and Dartmouth, Duke? or would you consider Vandy a step below, with USC, Cal, LA, Emory? (just generally when employers look at the school) I need this because if I am accepted to universities such as Upenn, Columbia, MIT, I would definitely transfer out. However if I am accepted to cornell, dartmouth, etc, and the differences are negligible, I would need to think twice since transfer is a complicated process for me and I would lose some credits in the process.

  2. Vandy sends around 20~30 kids per year to MBB from what I know (do correct me if I am wrong), but these are mostly regional offices. If I am looking for career outside the region, how much would the disadvantages be? I know that Vandy's presence in various fields(wall street, consulting, etc) has increased drastically over the years. Is there chance that Vandy may do as well as cornell, brown, etc in the future?

Of course, this is hypothetical since I may get screwed in the admissions process. Any additional info or comment will be greatly appreciated!
