They provide debt financing (primarily revolvers and term loans) to Companies to help support their working capital needs, finance acquistions, refinance existing debt, or any other reason they may need a loan for. It's also a relationship management role where you maintain client relationships and try to cross sell other services within the bank.
If you want to get a job in CB, you should understand accounting and financial statement analysis, which are pretty crucial elements to fundamental credit analysis. Also, try to read the S&P leveraged loan primer. Happy to help if you have any other questions
