Dumb question on vesting…

For those of you who worked at private companies, when do you actually vest during a liquidity event like an acquisition?

If your company was to be acquired, would you vest on the deal announcement? Or only when the transaction is actually completed, which would be a much longer time away?

I’m seeing some other interesting roles come up and trying to weigh whether I can just wait a few months.
