Investor Relations Tech Stack Recommendations

I’m exploring tech stack options to support a lean public company IR function. Specifically looking for tools or platforms that help with:

Shareholder surveillance and targeting Peer/sector ownership tracking Real-time trading data or investor flows Earnings prep and perception tracking support

Bloomberg, FactSet and Capital IQ all seem quite expensive and potentially cost-prohibitive, so I’m looking for more budget-conscious alternatives that still deliver solid coverage and IR-relevant functionality.

Would appreciate any recommendations on platforms you’ve used or vetted as well as size bracket of your firm. Thanks in advance.

Based on the most helpful WSO content, here are some recommendations and insights for a lean public company IR tech stack:

  1. Shareholder Surveillance and Targeting:

    • Alternatives to Bloomberg/FactSet/CapIQ: Crunchbase Pro has been highlighted as a cost-effective tool for private company data and targeting. While it may not fully replace the big players, it can be a useful supplement for shareholder surveillance and targeting.
  2. Peer/Sector Ownership Tracking:

    • Specialized Tools: Platforms like PrivCo and PitchBook are often used for private company insights but can also provide valuable data for tracking ownership trends in specific sectors. These are more budget-friendly compared to Bloomberg or FactSet.
  3. Real-Time Trading Data or Investor Flows:

    • Budget-Friendly Options: While the context does not explicitly mention alternatives for real-time trading data, leveraging free or lower-cost tools like Yahoo Finance or TradingView for basic trading data might be worth exploring. For more advanced needs, consider reaching out to smaller data providers that cater to niche markets.
  4. Earnings Prep and Perception Tracking Support:

    • CRM and Excel: Many firms use Salesforce integrated with Excel for managing target lists and tracking processes. This combination is cost-effective and customizable for earnings prep and perception tracking.
    • Expert Networks: Engaging with expert networks or conducting direct outreach to industry professionals can provide qualitative insights for perception tracking.

For a lean IR function, combining these tools with manual processes (e.g., Excel templates for tracking) can help balance cost and functionality. Additionally, attending trade shows, leveraging trade associations, and networking within your sector can provide valuable insights without significant tech investment.
